Kennedy in Spotlight

All eyes are on John F. Kennedy, bathed in a spotlight, as he campaigns for the presidency in Commack, Long Island, on November 6, 1960, just two days before Election Day.

The Times wrote on November 7, "Wherever he went, whether it was 3:30 A.M. in Waterbury, Conn., or 3:30 P.M. in heavily Republican Suffolk Country on Long Island, he drew large crowds. The Waterbury turnout in the main square at 3 A.M. was estimated by newsmen at 20,000 and by the police at 26,000." Kennedy's appearance at the Long Island Arena at Commack attracted 8,000 to 9,000 inside and 5,000 to 10,000 others outside. It was the biggest political crowd ever assembled in the county, police officials said.
